Fear and Love

Donnie's refusal to place a scenario on the lifeline - "you can't just lump things into two categories, things aren't that simple" - gets him sent to the principal and, later, to confront Cunningham himself ("you're the fucking Antichrist"). The doctrine is the Manipulated Living's worldview: a simple binary, offered by a man with a far more complicated basement.
