Time Portal
A gateway between universes, made of water, that opens at the Tangent Vortex. The Artifact is sent back through it.
The film shows a portal twice. At the Aero cinema, Frank opens a watery portal over the screen to show Donnie Jim Cunningham's house. In the finale, the Vortex above the Darko house is the portal through which the jet engine returns to October 2.
Professor Monnitoff's classroom explanation of wormholes - and the drawing of a spaceship "going through a wormhole" - is the film's scientific gloss on the same idea.
